My story begins back when I was a kid, growing up on a family farm surrounded by family.
Living on the land I learned the importance of strong values and of hard work (the most common thing my Pa used to say was “never put off til tomorrow what you can do today”).
I also learned the necessity of being a problem solver. If something was not working, find a way to fix it. Make it work, get results.
As the first born child and grandchild, I was the ruler of my domain and thought I could grow up to be and do whatever I set my mind to (whilst this is a blessing, for me has also been somewhat of a curse at times).
Fast forward to my working career, I worked at two of the big four Banks for several years, so I know how they operate.
In 2001 I left to become a Mortgage Broker at the age of 24 to ethically serve my friends and family in the world of finance.
I was young, still somewhat inexperienced, but keen to make a difference.
As a shy introverted kid, it was difficult. Back in those days, we’d do night time appointments at people’s homes. So I was leaving my comfort zone and entering their domain.
Positive feedback from the people I was helping gave me confidence that I was performing well at my craft.
And throughout this time, I slowly worked at improving my thought patterns and behaviour. It took a long time to reach that tipping point.
Way more mistakes than I’d like to admit out loud.
For several years now, I’ve been going all-in on trying to improve every aspect of my life.
My aim is for these improvements to flow through to the people I meet with.
